West Ham United have been one of the most active Premier League clubs in the January transfer window and are not slowing down on Deadline Day.
The Hammers are currently embroiled in a concerning relegation battle and are determined to turn things around over the remaining months of the campaign.
Adama Traore, Taty Castellanos and Pablo are the three new attacking additions brought into the squad this January to increase goal contributions.
However, their attacking threat is just one of many concerns, as no other team in the Premier League has conceded more goals (48) than West Ham after 24 fixtures, meaning improving their defensive presence will be essential in their fight to remain in the top flight.
It has been widely reported over the weekend that the East London club have been negotiating a deal to sign Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi on loan before the window closes.
A fresh update has now been revealed by Fabrizio Romano on the potential move, with just hours remaining to get a deal for Disasi over the line.
The Italian transfer expert revealed on X this afternoon:
“West Ham are waiting for Axel Disasi’s final answer on the transfer after verbal agreement with Chelsea over loan deal.”
Will West Ham sign Axel Disasi?
There is no doubt that Disasi would bring some much-needed Premier League experience and physical presence to the West Ham back line, but time is running out to complete the move before the 7pm deadline.
The 27-year-old Frenchman joined Chelsea in 2023 but has featured inconsistently during his time in West London, making 61 appearances overall and failing to feature in the first team at all so far this season.
As a result, a move across London would be beneficial for both the player and West Ham for the remainder of the campaign.
Disasi could revive his career with regular first-team football, improve his fitness and earn recognition by making a significant impact on the Hammers’ defensive performances, potentially saving them from the drop to the Championship.
With West Ham fighting for their Premier League survival, the final hours of the window could prove decisive in shaping their fate this season.
Securing a defender would not only address an immediate weakness but also show clear intent from the Hammers hierarchy to do everything possible to retain their top-flight status.
As the clock ticks down, this is a move that feels imperative for a vulnerable side desperate to stabilise and pull clear of danger.
