West Ham United goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez has officially joined La Liga outfit Alaves on loan until the end of the season (whufc.com). It puts to an end what has been a miserable few months for the Spaniard in east London, where he didn’t excel and made several high profile mistakes.
Indeed he started just seven times in the Premier League for the Hammers but in that time still conceded 16 goals (Transfermarkt). Added to that he made two errors which led directly to goals against, whilst his save percentage was just 68% (SofaScore).
Following the arrival of Darren Randolph (BBC Sport), Roberto had slipped to fourth in the pecking order behind the Irishman, David Martin and Lukasz Fabianski, so a move back to Spain is probably the best thing for all parties. The 33-year-old was certainly not a fans favourite at the London Stadium, indeed he was even given ironic cheers by his own supporters whenever he made a save in a game against Tottenham Hotspur back in November (talkSPORT).
It is therefore unsurprising that many Irons fans are delighted that he has left the club to go to Alaves, with many taking to social media to express their happiness that the Spanish stopper has gone. Here is what some had to say…
… and breathe. I’d rather stick an outfield player in and play rush goalie than see him on the pitch again. How we managed to find anywhere to offload him I’ll never know, let’s just be thankful that we did.
