Our West Ham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are getting desperate for some good news to grace their club this season.

The campaign for the Irons so far has been one to remember for all the wrong reasons with players under-performing, transfers flopping, results woeful and the new stadium failing to impress.

Throw into the mix, now, that Dimitri Payet wants to leave the club and you get a pretty depressing mixture if you’re claret and blue inclined.

Slaven Bilic needs to get working his magic, then, and sign some decent players to boost morale in this window.

He might be about to, too, as, according to Sky Sports, the Hammers are interested in getting Michy Batshuayi to join on loan from Chelsea.

Our landlord reckons that’d be a great tonic for this ill-fated season, too, and here are two reasons to explain exactly why that’s the case…

They need a striker

This is pretty obvious but it’s the truth.

West Ham sorely need a source of goals as so far this season they might as well have gone with no-one leading the line. Simone Zaza has been so poor we’re not sure he is in fact a professional footballer whilst Andy Carroll is surely going to get injured at some point once again. A reliable option is needed, then, and the young Belgian looks just the ticket.

He’s hungry to prove a point

The Belgian joined Chelsea and must have thought he could have challenged Diego Costa for the starting spot up top this season.

Costa, though, has shrugged off the problems of last season to return to his world class best and that’s left Batshuayi in limbo. He certainly has a point to prove to Antonio Conte and if he does move on loan he’ll be eager to show the kind of player he is – benefiting West Ham at the same time.
