With 2019 coming to an end, so too is the decade known as the ‘teenies’.
It has been an incredible 10-year period in the world of football which has seen ups and downs for a number of clubs, including West Ham United.
The Hammers began the decade in the Premier League, but endured an awful 2010/11 season which saw them finish rock bottom and suffer relegation to the Championship (BBC Sport).
They didn’t stay in the second tier for long however, finishing in third place in their first campaign following relegation and ultimately beating Blackpool 2-1 in a memorable play-off final at Wembley (BBC Sport).
Since then they have remained in the top flight, with their best campaign being the 2015/16 season under Slaven Bilic when they finished seventh and qualified for the UEFA Europa League.
The decade has also seen many talented players represent West Ham, including the likes of Dimitri Payet and Mark Noble.
The club are currently asking fans to vote for who their ‘Hammer of the Decade’ is on their official website, with Winston Reid, James Collins, Michail Antonio, Kevin Nolan, Lukasz Fabianski, Declan Rice, Scott Parker and Aaron Cresswell all nominated alongside both Payet and Noble.
Fans have been debating who should win it on Twitter and although some mention Payet for how good he was in 15/16, most believe that Noble is the most deserving winner…
Don’t care how quick he left, it’s Dimitri Payet – That man gave us such excitement and buzz, even if for a short time, that none of us will forget for a long while.
If not, give it to Noble.

Payet based on pure ability.
Noble based on everything else.— Kanye West Ham (@KanyeWestHam_) December 18, 2019
Payet was the best player we have ever had…
… but Mark Noble is the one I’ll love forever.

Mark Noble is Hammer of the Decade. It isn’t even a debate. No one comes close to Noble for loyalty and passion for West Ham. West Ham fans have grown used to Noble being West Ham through and through and take him for granted – his absence in future years will leave a huge gap.

Mr Westham himself Mark Noble, it cant be anyone else.
Payet is the most skilfull, game changing, exciting player, who made the biggest impact in a season, but one season isn’t enough for hammer of the decade! ⚒— Ollie Chuter (@OChuter) December 18, 2019
Gotta be Noble. West ham through and through. Club legend.

Mark Noble by a country mile. Loyalty, dedication, leadership, consistency, appearances and the man bleeds claret and blue. Please take down all the other pictures. They couldn’t hold a candle to this guy.
