Lots of sources are saying that Titus Bramble is on the verge of signing for Sunderland. My question is “WHY would Sunderland buy him?”
If it is because of his pace and athleticism we already have a centre back with similar pace and athleticism – Nyron Nosworthy, who, apparently, is surplus to requirements. If it is because of his habit of making the odd mistake every couple of games we also already have a centre back who does that – Anton Ferdinand, for whom, apparently Steve Bruce has invited offers.
It is difficult to see what attributes Bramble could bring to the team that Turner, Kilgallon, Da Silva etc do not already have. After talk of Westerman and Onuha this seems to be a “bit” of an anti-climax and it is even more difficult to see how this signing would improve the quality in the squad.

The reason is simple, for the way that Steve Bruce plays the game, Bramble is a fantastic centre back. Latics fans aren’t stupid (not all of us anyway), we saw him become a superb defender under Bruce – but he’s looked a little out of sorts with Martinez who expects a rather different game.
