With 4 Cooper bids rejected: Rangers should target 1 of these 2 centre-backs instead

Steven Gerrard has been incredibly active in the transfer market so far this summer in his bid to revamp the Rangers squad, but recent reports suggest that he is struggling to secure the signature of a key club target.

Despite the fact that Gerrard has already added Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson to the squad this summer, it seems that Rangers are eager to bring another centre-back to the club before the window slams shut.

Milwall’s Jake Cooper has been subjected to plenty of speculation in recent weeks with regards to a switch to Ibrox, and a recent tweet from Sky Sports journalist Jim White has all but confirmed that Rangers are doing eveyrthing they can to sign him this summer.

According to sources close to Jim White, Rangers have already had 4 bids rejected for Cooper, so it seems incredibly unlikely that they’ll be able to force through a deal in the coming weeks with Millwall’s stubborn resistance to consider.

Cooper was one of the Lions’ standout performers last season at the heart of their defence, but he also offered a significant threat in the penalty area.

The massive 6ft 5in talent used his physical presence to clinical effect by notching 4 goals and providing 3 assists in Millwall’s failed bid to reach the play-offs, so it’s easy to understand why Rangers are expressing an interest.

However, Millwall’s reluctance to entertain offers for his services suggest that Gerrard may have to abandon his pursuit of Cooper in the coming weeks and focus on more realistic alternatives.

With that in mind, here are two players Gerrard should target instead of Cooper this summer…
