Tottenham Hotspur fans enjoyed a dramatic season in the Premier League last term, though it ended in disappointment as they didn’t win the title or finish above Arsenal, but it was still a campaign far superior to what many expected.
It’s given the north London side a return to Champions League football and has raised expectations for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who may now be seen as genuine contenders for overall glory. However, they will need to spend this summer.
The focal point of the Argentine’s planned spending seems to be in attack, with reports suggest a fee of £12m has been agreed with AZ Alkmaar for the services of last season’s Eredivisie top scorer, Vincent Janssen.
21-year-old Janssen won’t be able to make Spurs title favourites all on his own though, so our landlord has picked out five further signings that Pochettino could bring into White Hart Lane this summer to bolster the squad.

Michy Batshuayi
The Belgian is set to increase interest in his services during the European Championships, with a side that should go a long way in the competition, and the Marseille forward has long been linked with a Premier League move- and the French outfit know they have to sell.
Spurs’ main competitors in the chase for Batshuayi’s signature seem to be West Ham but with the offering of Champions League football at White Hart Lane, the Lilywhites should manage to fend off the Hammers interest and seal his services.
However, Spurs will have to match Marseille’s asking price and given that Batshuayi is one of the most exciting players in his generation, he could be expensive.
Domenico Berardi
Sassuolo ace Domenico Berardi is a name that many will be familiar with, as he’s no stranger to adorning the back pages filled with transfer gossip, but it seems that this summer may be the time when he’s finally on the move.
Spurs want to bring him to north London but the difficulty comes from Italian giants Juventus, who are also keen on landing the £16m signing, and Pochettino’s men may find it difficult to persuade Berardi to snub the Old Lady.
Nevertheless, Spurs are likely to try their luck and make a move.
Troy Deeney
The Watford striker proved his worth in the Premier League last season and has shown his capability to be a top striker- and a move to Spurs could possibly open the door to an England future for the Hornets man.
Spurs will have fair competition in the hunt though, with Leicester City also said to be interested, and at the Foxes he could be the leading man, whereas at Spurs he’s most likely to be a member of the supporting cast- so there’s a lot to think about.
At 27-years-old, Deeney is approaching the prime years of his career and a potential partnership with Harry Kane could be very fruitful.
Franco Vazquez
Yesterday, it was confirmed that Spurs are in talks with Palermo for the €25m signing of 27-year-old Franco Vazquez, following an excellent season with the Italian outfit; where he scored eight goals and added seven assists.
Capable of playing as a leading striker or as a number 10, Vazquez’ versatility will appeal to Spurs and the Premier League is the most likely destination for the Argentine-born Italian international.
Naturally, there is of course interest from Italy- where AC Milan and Roma are set to rival Spurs for the player’s signature.
Breel Embolo
Remember the name. Breel Embolo is the one to watch at the European Championships, which begin this Friday, with a Switzerland side who many see as dark horses for the competition. Having made his name at FC Basel, the stage is set for the young forward.
At 19-years-old, he was won three consecutive league titles in Switzerland and has caught the attention of Europe- with Spurs, Liverpool, Borussia Monchengladbach and a host of other top sides chasing his services.
Euro 2016 could see interest in Embolo’s services rise further but it’s more than likely he’ll make the jump from Basel this summer, in what could be a hefty transfer.
