Everton’s biggest priority this summer is clear: finding a reliable goalscorer.
While the Toffees enjoyed a respectable first campaign at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and remained in contention for a top-half finish until late in the season, a lack of cutting edge in front of goal ultimately held them back.
Beto showed signs of improvement throughout the campaign, while Thierno Barry worked tirelessly, but neither striker managed to reach double figures in the Premier League.
As a result, David Moyes and Everton’s recruitment team are searching for additional firepower, and one experienced Premier League forward has emerged as a potential target.
Everton Keen to Sign Gabriel Jesus
Everton are interested in signing Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus this summer, according to Football Insider.
The Brazilian, previously described as “quality” by Mikel Arteta, is expected to be available as Arsenal reshape their squad ahead of next season.
However, Everton are reportedly unwilling to meet Arsenal’s current £20 million valuation. Concerns over Jesus’ recent injury record have left the Merseyside club hesitant to commit to a deal at that price.
The striker remains admired at Goodison Park’s new home, with Everton having tracked him for some time. His Premier League experience and proven ability at the highest level make him an attractive option for a side looking to add more goals to their attack.
A transfer is far from straightforward, though. Alongside the fee, Everton would also need to overcome the challenge of Jesus’ salary package, which is significantly higher than what they would ideally like to pay.
Competition is also expected from elsewhere, with AC Milan, Juventus and Palmeiras all believed to be monitoring the Arsenal forward’s situation.
For Everton, much could depend on whether Arsenal lower their demands and whether Jesus is prepared to make financial compromises in order to secure regular football.
