It’s been a tough season for Newcastle United, and we all agree here at the Football Transfer Tavern that it is only going to get tougher, now that Demba Ba’s transfer to Chelsea has been confirmed by Alan Pardew.
It will hardly come as a surprise to Magpies fans, with the Senegalese striker’s £7 million buy out clause meaning a January transfer away from Tyneside was always likely, especially considering his impressive goal scoring form this season.
Pardew will now need to move quickly to replace Ba, and ensure Newcastle’s slide down the Premier League table is halted as soon as possible. It will be no easy task however, with Ba proving far and away their most effective striker this campaign.
