Liverpool’s need for attacking reinforcements has become increasingly clear as the season has unfolded.
Injuries and inconsistency have disrupted their forward line, leaving the club short of reliable options in key moments.
Record signing Alexander Isak has endured a stop-start campaign, struggling for fitness and failing to make the expected impact when available. Hugo Ekitike is now sidelined for the foreseeable future, further limiting options, while Mohamed Salah is set to depart at the end of the season.
Cody Gakpo, meanwhile, has shown flashes of quality but has too often lacked the cutting edge required at the highest level.
With multiple gaps to address, Liverpool are already moving in the market — and their attention has turned toward one of Europe’s most explosive attackers.
Liverpool Make Leao Enquiry
Liverpool have made an initial enquiry over the potential signing of AC Milan winger Rafael Leao as they begin shaping their summer transfer plans, according to the Mail Online.
The Portugal international is viewed as a player capable of transforming games single-handedly, having been described as someone who “can win games on his own” by former teammate Tammy Abraham.
Known for his blistering pace and direct running, Leao is widely regarded as one of the fastest attackers in world football, making him an ideal fit for Liverpool’s high-intensity style. His ability to carry the ball over long distances and create chances out of nothing has made him one of Serie A’s standout performers once again this season.
Despite another productive campaign in Italy, frustration has grown at Milan, with the club falling short in the title race. That has led to a willingness behind the scenes to consider offers for key players as they look to manage their finances, with Leao potentially available for around £60 million.
Liverpool are not alone in tracking the 26-year-old, with interest also coming from other Premier League sides and Real Madrid. However, the Merseyside club’s early enquiry suggests they are serious about positioning themselves at the front of the queue.
Timing could prove crucial. With the World Cup on the horizon, clubs are keen to avoid a scenario where a strong tournament significantly increases Leao’s value. At the same time, Milan are approaching a key point in his contract, with just two years remaining by the summer.
For Liverpool, much will depend on their budget and squad reshaping, but the intent to bring in a top-level wide player is clear.
