Real Madrid continue to dominate headlines in European football, but not for the reasons they would prefer.
After missing out on the La Liga title once again to Barcelona, reports have emerged suggesting unrest behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu.
There are growing claims of internal tension within the squad, with speculation of a serious training ground incident involving Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni. The situation is said to have escalated into a physical confrontation, leaving the Uruguayan midfielder requiring hospital treatment for concussion.
Although Valverde later issued a public apology, the fallout has reportedly left his long-term future at the club in doubt, with suggestions he could now be viewed as an “outcast” in parts of the dressing room.
United to Move for Valverde
Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a summer approach for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, with The Mirror suggesting the Uruguayan’s future could be under review following recent behind-the-scenes tension at the Spanish club.
The 27-year-old has found himself at the centre of internal fallout after the alleged training ground clash with Tchouaméni. While he has since issued a public apology, the incident is believed to have caused significant friction within the dressing room, with senior figures at the club said to be increasingly frustrated.
Valverde, previously described as “brilliant” by former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, remains one of the most highly regarded midfielders in European football, but reports claim his standing within the squad has been weakened in the wake of the dispute.
United are now understood to be monitoring developments closely as they prepare for a major summer reshuffle in midfield. Casemiro is expected to depart, while Manuel Ugarte’s future is also uncertain as part of wider squad restructuring at Old Trafford.
Alongside Valverde, United continue to track several midfield targets including Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba, as the club look to add more energy and balance to their engine room ahead of next season.
For now, Valverde’s situation remains unresolved, but the growing uncertainty at Madrid could present United with an unexpected opening in the transfer market.
