Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United future takes another twist as club opens talks with Bundesliga forward

Marcus Rashford’s future has been one of the biggest talking points of Manchester United’s summer.

After an impressive loan spell at Barcelona, it had been widely expected that the Spanish champions would activate their option to sign the England international permanently.

However, following the arrival of Anthony Gordon and growing reluctance to spend again in attack, that move has stalled.

Now, another development appears to have made a return to the Camp Nou even less likely.

Rashford Future Takes Another Twist

According to Sky Germany, Barcelona have opened negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over a move for winger Karim Adeyemi.

The La Liga champions have submitted an opening offer worth around £17 million, although Borussia Dortmund are holding out for closer to the £28 million they paid to sign the Germany international from RB Salzburg in 2021.

With Adeyemi entering the final year of his contract, Dortmund may ultimately have to lower their demands, while the 24-year-old is reportedly keen on a move to Barcelona and the opportunity to work under Hansi Flick.

Barcelona’s pursuit of Adeyemi creates fresh uncertainty around Rashford’s future. The Catalan club have already strengthened their attack with the signing of Anthony Gordon, while their £26 million option to buy Rashford expired without being activated.

Manchester United are now expecting the 28-year-old to report back to Carrington following his post-World Cup break and remain determined to secure a permanent transfer rather than sanction another loan.

Unless Barcelona’s transfer plans change significantly, Rashford may need to look elsewhere to secure his next move this summer.
