Middlesbrough fans will be delighted with their result yesterday. They welcomed former boss Steve McLaren back to The Riverside as they hosted QPR in the Championship, with a win needed to keep up the hunt for a playoff place. They got that win and put in a top draw display to get it, with Jonny Howson starring in the win.
Plenty of candidates. But who gets your nod for MOTM? #UTB pic.twitter.com/VkupDRwN8F

A lot of players put down their marker for the man of the match award in what was a convincing win for the Teessiders. Howson, alongside the likes of Mo Besic, Ryan Shotton, John Obi Mikel and Ashley Fletcher all turned in top draw displays, yet it’s hard to overlook Howson. His midfield display was the stuff of dreams and his confidence will have been sky high after opening the scoring inside two minutes.
Nothing will top Howson’s display for the Boro fans, he bossed the middle of the park at The Riverside and gave the visitors little chance of mounting a comeback to try and grab something from the game. That alone is no mean feat and the fans will have been delighted to see their side grab the game by the scruff of the neck, and Howson was absolutely crucial in that happening.
