Sheffield Wednesday have stated that Barry Bannan could be set to make his return to Lee Bullen’s starting line up against Luton Town.
Their match preview noted that the Scotland international missed out against Barnsley with a calf injury, before returning to the bench against Millwall and coming on for the second half.
The Owls have no fresh injury concerns, which will be another encouraging sign for Bullen.
Before picking up the aforementioned calf injury, Bannan got an assist in Wednesday’s 3-1 season-opening victory against Reading, as per WhoScored.
He also made an impression when coming off the bench at half time at The Den, getting a WhoScored rating of 7.0 – with Kadeem Harris and Sam Hutchinson the only Wednesday players to match that.
The 29-year-old was brilliant on the ball, completing 91% of all passes he made, which included four key passes, while he wasn’t dispossessed with the ball at his feet in the entirety of the half.
Another sign of how quickly he took control, is that despite only playing one half, his 5.9% of the game’s overall possession was higher than his fellow midfielder Adam Reach.
Bannan is a brilliant option for Bullen to have and he could definitely help the Owls dominate possession if he is utilised against Luton.
The Owls’ caretaker manager has the option to change the team around for this game and the Scotsman is certainly someone he should include in the starting line up.
