Sheffield Wednesday: Liam Palmer could return from injury against Rotherham United

Sheffield Wednesday defender Liam Palmer could return from injury against Rotherham United, as reported by The Star.

The 27-year-old has missed the Owls’ last two matches due to a back problem, though there is a chance he could return for the Carabao Cup tie on Wednesday night.

Lee Bullen sees Palmer as his first-choice left-back, though Morgan Fox has been filling in during his absence.

Palmer has played three games for Wednesday so far this season, getting one assist and one yellow card, as per WhoScored.

Defensively, he has averaged 2 tackles, 2 interceptions and 2 clearances per game, while giving away 0.3 fouls and being dribbled past 0.7 times and won 1 aerial duel each match.

Going forward, the 27-year-old has made 1.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles, while being fouled and dispossessed 0.7 times per game.

He has completed 66% of the passes he has attempted this campaign, while playing 1.7 long balls per game.

All of this indicates that he is being more effective than last season, as he didn’t get any league assists in the entire 2018/19 campaign, while he is also averaging more key passes, interceptions and aerial duels won, as well as having an improved pass success rate, with his average match rating being 0.47 higher than it was in the previous term.

It would be a bonus if Palmer was able to play against Rotherham, as Bullen’s side look to get back to winning ways, but he shouldn’t be rushed back.

He is seen as an important player, who is the first-choice in his position, so it is not worth risking the 27-year-old if he isn’t ready and potentially having him out for a longer period of time in the league.

Wednesday fans, should Palmer be rushed back into action? Tell us what you think by commenting below!
