Sheffield Wednesday kept on the coattails of Leeds United by holding their Yorkshire rivals to a 1-1 draw on Saturday (via BBC Sport).
The Owls were rock solid at the back, with Sam Hutchinson coming away with most of the plaudits after filling it at centre-back following an injury to Julian Borner.
However, one player whose strong performance appears to have gone a little unnoticed is midfielder Barry Bannan.
The 29-year-old was outstanding on the afternoon for Wednesday, a statement which is backed up when you look closer at his statistics from the match. Indeed, the Scot played two key passes, four accurate crosses and three accurate long balls, completed four dribbles and made one clearance and one interception in the 90 minutes (via WhoScored).
He finished with a WhoScored rating of 7.38, the second highest of any Sheffield Wednesday player on the day with only Morgan Fox having a higher rating.
Bannan is a crucial player for the Owls and has been for several years now. He has played 177 games for the South Yorkshire club, scoring nine goals and providing 28 assists in that time (Transfermarkt).
Three of those assists have come in his 13 Championship appearances this season, meaning that along with Kadeem Harris and Adam Reach, he has provided the most goals for Garry Monk’s side this season (Transfermarkt).
If Wednesday are to maintain a play-off push this season, there is no doubt that they will need Bannan to be at his best and be their creative spark in midfield.
