Journalist Jonty Colman of football.london has shared an update after claims that Amiens defender Formosse Mendy 'should finally join' West Ham.

The Lowdown: Mendy linked with move...

Mendy, as per reports out of Africa, has also been at the centre of a fresh claim linking the defender with a surprise move to east London amid West Ham's possible search for Craig Dawson's successor.

The latter player completed a move to Wolves earlier this week, leaving manager David Moyes one central defender short as the Scotsman fights to keep his team in the Premier League.

wiwsport.com, sharing news early Wednesday, claimed Mendy 'should finally join West Ham' having already agreed personal terms.

The Latest: Colman shares Mendy to West Ham update...

Colman, taking to Twitter, has now moved to quash claims that the centre-back is closing in on a move to England.

He explained:

"Understand that reports that Formosse Mendy is joining #WHUFC are wide of the mark."

The Verdict: Future option?

The Senegalese has been a fixture for Amiens this season as the Ligue 2 side remain firmly in the hunt for promotion to France's top flight.

Mendy also stands at a lofty 6 foot 3 and possesses the physicality to succeed in a very demanding division like the Premier League.

Moyes, according to reports, has been known to scout players in the French leagues as he sees that part of Europe as a very fruitful resource for top emerging talent.

Mendy, still just 22-years-old, may well fall into that category given he already has two senior international caps for Senegal in a side loaded with real quality.

The Africa Cup of Nations winners boast defensive options like Kalidou Koulibaly and Olympiacos star Pape Abou Cisse in their ranks, making Mendy's inclusion all the more impressive.

We wouldn't rule out more concrete links to the player in future, but for now, it appears he won't be signing for West Ham.
