Despite impressing throughout the campaign, inconsistent results have really cost the Lilywhites – with a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool over the weekend the latest in what was undoubtedly a very poor performance from Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
Sure, Tottenham are still sat in 2nd place – but with just 2 points separating them from 6th place, another performance like that which they displayed against Liverpool over the weekend will see them drop down the table rapidly.
In truth, whilst a few are holding out hope, for the majority of the Tottenham fans in the transfer Tavern – this season is about securing Champions League football rather than winning a Premier League title – and that, in many ways, is a microcosm of why Tottenham will never win anything under Pochettino.
With that said, here are 2 reasons why Mauricio Pochettino will never win anything with Tottenham Hotspur…
Lack of Experience
The Tottenham project is going to be a very long one.
Whilst they have had success in recent years, for the most part, the Lilywhites have been outside of the top 4 in the Premier League.
Pochettino has done well, but he has yet to really break past the other top sides in the Premier League, and that is going to be a serious problem for him going forward.
As a result, his side have no experience of winning anything. They came so close last season to Premier League glory, and the fact that they lost certainly would have harmed the players within the first team.
Experience is vital, and Pochettino simply doesn’t have enough.
New Stadium
This is a story that we have seen before.
Tottenham have got a very exciting new stadium project in the pipeline, and long-term – it is going to have a hugely positive effect on Tottenham.
However, as we saw with Arsenal a few years ago, whilst a stadium is being built, funds are limited – and it is going to take Tottenham some time to recover from that. For the next few years, Pochettino is going to have to deal with his current squad and a few minor acquisitions, and that might not be enough.
In addition, clubs often have problems adjusting to new stadiums – and that could also have an impact.
In short, Pochettino is going to be limited with resources over the next few years – and that could prevent major growth, and subsequently, titles.
