The Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a report from Alasdair Gold on football.london that claims Tottenham Hotspur is an extremely unlikely destination for Gareth Bale this summer. The Welshman stoked the fire of transfers rumours with his comments after the Champions League final when he claimed he needs to be playing week in week out after a disappointing domestic season saw his game time reduced.

The story claims that Tottenham’s first-buyback clause that they have in Gareth Bale’s contract does exist, although it’s very unlikely that it will be used as the winger looks set to leave the Spanish capital this summer. Apparently, is Real Madrid were to accept an offer for the star from another Premier League club, Spurs would have 72 hours to match the bid and if they were to match it then Los Blancos would have to accept Spurs bid.
Whilst this is all well and good and could be used to prevent the likes of Manchester United, who have been long-term admirers of Bale, from signing the 28-year-old, it means that Tottenham would have little chance of beating the likes of PSG or Bayern Munich to signing the player. After the initial transfer fee has been agreed there’s the issue of wages which would be a huge stumbling block for the North London outfit. It was last reported that Bale is on a £350,000 per week contract, a sum that blows Spurs wage structure out of the water.
