Leeds United ran out 2-0 winners against Wigan Athletic away from home on Saturday and fans took to Twitter following the final whistle to praise Ben White for his performance throughout the game.
FULL TIME: #LUFC defeat 10-man Wigan, as Patrick Bamford bags a brace against the Latics. 0-2
— Leeds United (@LUFC) August 17, 2019
The Whites went to the top of the Championship with the victory as they made it two wins and one draw from their opening three matches thanks to Patrick Bamford’s brace.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side dispatched the Latics with ease — especially after the hosts went down to ten men following Joe Williams’ two yellow cards inside the first 20 minutes — seeing an incredible 76% possession of the ball on the day (as per WhoScored).
Bamford will have likely taken most of the plaudits for his brace, but the performance of White is one that appears to have caught the eye of many fans on social media.
The Brighton and Hove Albion loanee has been solid for Leeds since joining them this summer and appears to have built a solid partnership with Liam Cooper in the middle of the defence.
According to the data compiled by WhoScored, the 21-year-old has averaged 2.7 tackles, 2.3 interceptions and 2.7 clearances for Bielsa’s side in the three appearances he has made in England’s second-tier so far.
The Argentine recently revealed that Victor Orta has been a long-term admirer of White’s and had tried to sign him a year ago (Leeds Live) and his recent performances appear to suggest the Spanish Director of Football knew what he would be getting from him.
It was not just fans on Twitter that were impressed with what he has been bringing to the Elland Road outfit on the pitch either.
Leeds Live’s player ratings following the conclusion of the Wigan victory were rather favourable towards White, as they scored him a solid seven out of ten and wrote: “He had a height disadvantage against the giant Kieffer Moore and was drawn into making fouls, for which he was eventually shown a yellow card on the stroke of half-time. The first time he’s looked rattled in a United shirt, but showed how cool he is in a comfortable second half.”
Here are just some of the reactions fans had to his performance…
Impressed with Ben White dealing with Kieffer Moore. They wont come much more physical in this league, Wigan fans saying he was fouling Moore give me a break. All I saw from my seat was Whites shirt repeatedly pulled so much youd think Moore wanted it off his back #lufc.

Forshaw was bang on. Deserved a goal. Harrison caused problems all game. Douglas was exceptional. Bamford got into the right places when it counted and deserved his two goals. Kiko pulled off some great saves. Cooper & White were both great today. Lovely stuff. #lufc #mot #alaw

Dallas, Forshaw, Harrison all come on massively this season. Brilliant team performance. Cooper and White dominated one of the biggest aerial threats in the division. #lufc
