Leeds United travel to Middlesborough today and Marcelo Bielsa’s side will be hoping to regain their spot at the top of the Championship.
Having been defeated by fellow league chasers Norwich City last weekend, United will be looking to show why they are worthy of the title by getting back to winning ways against Boro.
The hosts find themselves in fifth position and look almost certain for a playoff spot as they head into the latter stage of the season.
United could put a halt to Tony Pulis’ side’s progress and potentially go top until at least Norwich play the following day.
With that being said, this pair must start for the Bielsa’s side to do so…
Jack Clarke
Clarke looked to have nailed down his starting spot in United’s side after starting twice in a row last month, however, in the past two games he has reverted to a role off the bench.
Against a Boro side who are very solid defensively and would prefer to catch sides on the break rather than have waves of attack, Clarke should be started to cause as many problems as possible for George Friend at left-back.
If they can make use of Clarke’s ability to beat his man and get in behind defences, then United could reap the benefit’s of the 18-year-old starting.
Liam Cooper
When Cooper returned from injury, he captained his side to vital a win over Derby, which was very important given that United had lost the two previous Championship games.
Their form has not been consistent, but if there is one man to help get United back on track, it is Cooper.
His remarkable leadership qualities, as well as his ability on the ball and when defending, will prove to be vital in the title race. His presence from the beginning is just what they need to marshall the defence and pick the team up when they are down.
