Drop him: Bruce must axe these 2 players from today’s starting Aston Villa XI against the Owls

Steve Bruce has had an up and down time in charge of Aston Villa to say the least since taking over from Roberto Di Matteo earlier in the season.

After getting off to a promising start and then spending big in January, many expected Villa to kick on and maybe even challenge for a top six spot.

However, our Villa fans here in the Tavern have been left a frustrated bunch. After a 1-0 defeat in midweek to promotion chasing Huddersfield Town, the talk among Villa fans over at the pool table has been about this weekend’s fixture with Sheffield Wednesday.

Our landlord thinks Bruce should look to make a few changes to the starting eleven, and we agree.

So, with this in mind, here are TWO Villa players Steve Bruce should be looking to axe today…

Conor Hourihane

The January signing might well be finding his place under threat, having not quite produced the form he showed at Barnsley as yet.

With Villa having options on the bench in midfield, Hourihane might well find himself making way if Bruce decides to change things up ahead of what is a massive game at Villa Park.

Nathan Baker

The Villans are still losing too many games and conceding sloppy goals, and Baker could well be the man to make way if Bruce decides to change up his defence.

With Tommy Elphick sitting in wait, the former Bournemouth man could well replace Baker if the manager opts for changes today.
