Everton: Toffees in ‘impossible’ Anthony Gordon contract situation

Goodison Park, Liverpool, Britain - September 18, 2022. Everton's Anthony Gordon applauds fans as he is substituted.

Everton will find it ‘impossible’ to get Anthony Gordon to sign a new contract worth under £100k-per-week, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Contract talks stall

Premier League giants Chelsea were credited with a strong interest in the forward over the summer, but a move failed to materialise before the deadline as a result of the Toffees wanting him to stay.

However, talks regarding a new contract are claimed to have now stalled, with the 21-year-old’s representatives demanding that the club make a £100k-per-week offer to keep him at Goodison Park.

The Latest: Jones’ comments

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones insisted that Everton must make Gordon an offer worth a decent figure if they don’t want to risk losing him during the upcoming window. He said:

“Once you are linked with transfers upwards of £50m, it’s almost impossible for your club to then argue that you are not worth at least £100,000 a week, no matter your age or your experience.”

The Verdict: Tie him down

Gordon is still a very young player, but Frank Lampard will know what he’s capable of achieving and therefore should make an increased proposal to secure his services in the long term.

The Liverpudlian has netted seven goals and provided eight assists during his time on Merseyside and offers plenty of versatility, having previously operated in midfield, on both flanks and through the middle (Transfermarkt).

An England U21 international, he will also be attracting attention from his performances for the Three Lions, surely making it a no-brainer for Everton to tie their prized asset down.
