Portsmouth fans have really had a tough time when it comes to holding onto leads as of late. The famous example was their clash against Southend back in mid-February when they let a 3-0 lead slip and drew 3-3, and yesterday they very nearly fell to the same fate as they won 3-2 despite being 3-0 up after 70 minutes against Walsall.
Goal: Walsall 2 (Guthrie 90+3) #Pompey 3

A 94th-minute strike from John Guthrie had the Pompey fans on edge for the last few remaining seconds of the clash, and who can blame them. For a large chunk of the season, Portsmouth sat atop of League One and were cruising, spending months in 1st place from September through to mid-January, yet they now find themselves 4th and set for a battle in the playoffs if they want to taste promotion.
The playoffs, though, are an entirely different animal to regular league football, and if the Fratton Park faithful let any kind of lead slip in the big games when the playoffs come around then they may as well start preparing for life in League One again next season now. Kenny Jackett certainly has his work cut out for him, and with nine games left between now and the end of the season, they’re all desperate to keep winning and doing it more convincingly.

The Pompey fans had real fears of throwing it all away last night, and they really can’t afford to let it slip now given how strong their season has been so far.
