Sunderland still remain hopeful of achieving promotion but the battle to do so will be a lot harder than they first believed.
Even though they have games in hand, teams around them have been picking up wins regularly, putting pressure on Jack Ross and his team to produce every game.
That is pressure Sunderland could easily crack under although they have very talented players for League One.
Work still needs to be done to their team whether they achieve promotion back into the Championship or not as it may be another summer of players leaving and joining the club.
One youngster they may look at acquiring is West Ham’s Nathan Holland, a winger that could make a real difference at the Stadium of Light.
Holland is a player highly-rated in West Ham’s youth system but having suffered with injury for the majority of this campaign, his progress has stalled, hence the need for a loan move.
Having made just five appearances all season for the U23 side – where he provided one goal and three assists – Holland would have seen fellow team-mates such as Conor Coventry, Grady Diangana and Joe Powell all make their first-team debuts.
That is something Holland could have done too if it wasn’t for injury and now he may be forced out on-loan in an effort to show what he is really capable of at a higher level.
Sunderland would be a club where he has pressure on him but whether it’s Championship or League One football the club will be playing, it would prove to be a stern test for Nathan Holland, with a view to then getting himself in contention for West Ham’s starting line-up.
