It’s been a fairly tumultuous season for Charlton this year as Lee Bowyer has had to contend with a whole host of problems at the club due to the horrific underfunding of club owner, Roland Duchâtelet.
The fans have been incredibly dissatisfied with how the how the Belgian owner has run the club and considering some of the news that had come out of Chartlon, it’s not hard to understand why.
Promised staff bonuses have not been paid, academy players have not been allowed water and a rumoured takeover from an Australian consortium is yet to come to fruition.
Within the off-field turmoil at the club, after their recent win over Bristol Rovers, Charlton remain in the hunt for the playoffs and currently sit sixth in the table.
At the beginning of the season, Charlton lost their best player in Jake Forster-Caskey to add more to woe to their season but in his stead, young striker Karlan Grant has stepped up to fill his shoes.
A product of the youth academy, the 21-year-old has been a star for the side this season and has scored nine goals in 18 games while also recording four assists.
The striker has been in around the first-team for the last three years but as of yet has never been a consistent goalscoring force for the club.
Last year he was sent on loan to Crawley Town in league Two where he had an impressive spell and scored nine goals in 15 games.
He’s taken that solid form into this season and thanks to him and Lyle Taylor, Charlton have managed to keep themselves above water.
Unfortunately for Bowyer, the forward’s contract runs out next year and has yet to sign a new deal. Considering the turmoil at the club at the moment and Grant’s superb form, the young striker should look to make a move away from the club in the summer.
