It’s been a strange old time for Sunderland AFC fans since watching their team get dumped from the Premier League in 2017 and then the Championship the following year.
Certain players, who don’t warrant mention – but we’re sure fans are aware of – have stuck around leeching from the club, sapping Sunderland of all their worth, and behaving in a way that shows a total lack of disregard for the faith and responsibility vested in them.
Now in the English Football League One, the Wearside club are tasked with rebuilding their club. And they’re doing a pretty good job of it so far.
Jack Ross will be keen to keep up the momentum during the January transfer window, with such a huge season ahead of him and his team, and a couple of new faces would help considerably.
With that in mind, here are two players who would surely secure promotion for Sunderland…
Glen Kamara
According to The Courier’s sources, Sunderland are interested in bringing Finland international Glen Kamara to the club.
Kamara, whose contract is set to expire next summer, currently plays in Scotland for Dundee FC but is yet to sign another deal – alerting a number of top teams, including Celtic and Rangers, to his availability.
The Black Cats would certainly do well to sign the midfielder as a long-term replacement to Lee Cattermole, who is slowly making his way towards the end of his career. He’s similarly proficient at defending and intercepting play, and operates with a maturity beyond his years.
Ben Watson
The Nottingham Post suggest that veteran midfielder Ben Watson is due to transfer listed by Nottingham Forest this January, and we believe Jack Ross should seize the opportunity to make him one of his first signings of 2019.
He may not be as capable as he once was, but Watson would certainly provide a bit of experience in an incredibly young Sunderland side.
